What's a GATE Exchange like?
Learning alongside art teachers from around the world through shared making, experimentation, and exchange.
Engaging in workshops, studio sessions, and place-based excursions that connect practice to context.
Exploring new environments together, and finding inspiration through unexpected moments of collaboration and conversation.

Each GATE Exchange follows a three-day format. While each host city shapes the experience, the overall structure remains consistent.
Friday - Place-based learning
The Exchange begins with a day of place-based learning, led by the host school.
Participants explore the city through guided experiences such as museum visits, urban sketching, photography, and art history tours.
Saturday - Workshops and dialogue
Saturday focuses on teacher-led workshops and collaborative sessions.
The programme includes hands-on making, discussion forums, and “Job-Alike” groups for teachers working in similar contexts.
Sunday - Studio practice
Sunday is dedicated to studio-based sessions that celebrate the teacher as artist.
Participants spend time creating, developing their own practice, and exploring new materials or approaches.
