ISF GATE 2022

International School of Florence

ISF GATE was hosted by the International School of Florence. After a two-year hiatus due to Covid, the Exchange felt uncertain, making the opportunity to gather again in a villa overlooking the Tuscan hills feel like a celebration.

Tess Hitchcock, ISF art teacher.

Teachers explored Florence through sketching and photography in the city’s streets, and visits to Palazzo Strozzi and the Uffizi Galleries.

Workshops included drypoint etching, dopamine fashion design, camera obscura experiments, and discussions around student agency. Teacher-as-artist sessions focused on drawing techniques and landscape painting in the Tuscan setting.

Time together over shared meals and evenings in the city gave the Exchange a strong sense of reconnection as well as learning.
